Not really. I think most patients prefer the innovator than generic but they can't afford to buy (as they received free medicine from the government hospitals. My eldest brother used to Norvasc but later the government hospital started to buy generic rather than from Pfizer. He feels the heat on his back and went to see the specialist a few times util he recommends to take Norvasc (he has to consume more than 10 types of medicines everyday for his heart, high blood pressure, diabetes and other ailments).

Anyway, I keep on thinking about Samsung Galaxy Note II. Some people bought the copy from China, after all it can receive calls, go to internet and performs like any other mobile phones and cheaper, but still people prefer the innovator.

Wan,

Some patients even can't buy ordinary medicine. A kind of medicine to cure hyperthyroidism almost disappear in hospital and drug store in China. Those producers decide to stop producing it because they can't gain profit. The patients who suffer from hyperthyroidism are facing lack of medince.

Dear Raindrop
There are of course many types of treatment for hyperthyroidism. I suppose the disappearing medicines are beta-blockers. Some medical centres may promote radioactive iodine as well as surgery.

Wan,

Actually, the medicine has existed for a long time. Yes, there are substitutes for it. But the price of the substitute is too expensive.

Whatever, we know that imported medicines are always expensive in China and quite difficult to find.

Exactly, Wan.

Take scaffolds for example. The prime cost of a made-in-China scaffold is around CNY 3000. When it comes to the hospital, it is sold at CNY 28000. The CIF (LANDED PRICE) of an imported scaffold is around CNY 6000. It is sold at CNY38000 at the hospital.

Dear Raindrop
What can we do to lessen the impact? Not buying the expensive medicines? Every imported products are definitely expensive. Last month, while I was crossing Lowu (HK) to Luohu (Mainland China) I saw some people are selling powdered milk under the brand of Enfagrow by Mead Johnson. I was flabbergasted to see how high the price in China was!

Wan,

Why is the imported milk powder much more expensive? The government and the Chinese enterprises are resonpsible for this. The government does its best to protect Chinese milk powder makers but those makers just produce low-quality milk powder. Chinese parents lose their confidence in Chinese makers. Thus, they all buy imported one. As result, the imported milk powder is sold so expensively.

You may be correct but the question of high price not to due to demand, as there are other commodities that can be sold cheaper when the amount is greater but rather the tax imposed as well as certain regulations that being enforced.

Yes, I forget about tax. Recently, those famous brands such as Wyeth, Abbott and Dumex have lowered their infant milk powder prices. China is investigating whether they monopolize the milk powder market. Again, the government intervenes in the market with its dministrative means.

In my view, we can't blame those foreign brands for monopolizing the milk powder market. If Chinese brands are competent, the market won't be monopolized by foreign brands. I suggest those problematic enterprises should be kicked out of the milk powder market. It's a great waste to help them.
