just want to say I just returned from a trip to Qindago and it was just perfect. Everything from the flight to all transfers in all airports. As far as going thru customs or dealing with any of the people all of them were just as nice as you could have wanted. I found the English language useless during much of my trip but there were a few Chinese here and there that spoke a little English or I should ...

SANETRAVELLER | Jan 19, 2025 23:46

Dalian, a vibrant coastal city in northeastern China, is known for its scenic beaches, modern architecture, and unique blend of Chinese and Russian influences. If you’re visiting Dalian for the first time, these essential tips will help you make the most of your trip:

1. Best Time to Visit
Dalian is a year-round destination, but the best time to visit is from May to October. During this period, the weather is pleasant, ideal for exploring beaches, parks, and outdoor attractions. Summer months are perfect for enjoying water sports and festivals.

2. Getting Around
The city has an efficient public transportation system, including buses, trams, and taxis. For a unique experience, try the historic trams, which are a legacy of Dalian’s colonial past. Ride-hailing apps like Didi are also convenient for getting around.

3. Currency and Payment
The local currency is the Chinese Yuan (CNY). While cash is still widely used, mobile payment apps like Alipay and WeChat Pay are incredibly popular. Ensure your payment methods are compatible with local systems.

4. Language Tips
While Mandarin is the official language, some locals speak a regional dialect. English is not widely spoken, so downloading a translation app or carrying a phrasebook is helpful. Learning a few basic Mandarin phrases can go a long way.

5. Must-Visit Attractions
Don’t miss popular spots like Xinghai Square, Tiger Beach Ocean Park, and Dalian Forest Zoo. For a relaxing day, visit Golden Pebble Beach or stroll along Binhai Road, known for its stunning coastal views.

6. Local Cuisine
Dalian is famous for its fresh seafood. Try dishes like steamed scallops, spicy clams, and sea cucumber. Don’t forget to sample the local snacks, such as Dalian-style pancakes and seafood dumplings.

7. Cultural Etiquette
Respect local customs and traditions. When visiting temples or traditional sites, dress modestly and follow rules for photography or conduct.

8. Safety and Essentials
Dalian is generally safe for tourists, but it’s wise to stay alert, especially in crowded areas. Carry a portable charger for your devices and stay hydrated while exploring.

By planning well and keeping these tips in mind, your first trip to Dalian will be a memorable adventure filled with culture, history, and natural beauty.

Trip To China

To see the beauty of China visit the city of Dalian. They have several wonderful parks and attractions. The air is clean and the people are extremely friendly.
I visited in August and the temperature was much warmer than expected so bring light weight clothing. The food was wonderful and the selections are many including choices from Chinese dishes and Western dishes all prepared delightfully. The prices are very reasonable and portions are more than you can eat.
I look forward to a return visit.
