It is national language rather than official language. We have many spoken languages and accents in Malaysia. Malaysia has three main races, namely Malay, Chinese, and in the East Malaysia with have indigenous peoples including Iban, Kadazan, Murut, etc. Malay is the national language as well as official language.

I am told national language in India is Hindi but its official language is English.

You belong to the majority or the main ethnic of China. It is very difficult for me to differentiate some of the ethnics in China. I met one girl in Beijing who was very kind and showed me the area of Xuanwu District of Beijing. She belongs to a Tujia ethnic.

Wan,

Some people from the ethnic groups have fully "evolved". They can speak mandarin very well. I actually have a colleague who comes from Tujia Ethnic group. He is our product designer. I am pretty sure that you won't think he is from the Tujia minority. He wears clothes. I have never seen him wearing his traditional clothes.

Actually I'm interested in knowing all the 56 ethnics in China and their roots. Most of the time, as I can't read Chinese, my information is based from the available literature in English.

Thank you for your kindness, dear BBQQ. Anyway, I don't think your English is that poor. You have good command of English.
