It depends on what you eat and the amount of food you eat. If you eat porridge then not much to chew, only swallow. Generally, Chinese eat faster than others.

Generally, I eat porridge and steamed buns as breakfast and dinner. At noon, rice and vegetable are my favorite.

Wan, I should tell you a secret. I have a big mouth and that's why I eat faster than others

My answer is the same as Atta. I am a boy and I won't waste my time on this. When you arrive in a country, ask social etiquette from a local. He/she is the real master.

When I was commissioned as a government employee I have to attend certain course, including protocol and table manners. They taught us how to arrange flags, prepare invitation cards, types of colours of our dress and when to use, evening dress is not the same as the official office dress, etc. During blacktie dinner, we ate following the music, when it stopped we should stop eating too. For government employees we didn't need to pay for attending the course but forothers they need to pay about 3000 including one week of food and lunch, and one blacktie dinner. These are for official functions prepared for us in case we are being appointed as an LO (Liaison Officer) for foreign dignitaries, which I have never experienced.

Never had a chance to experience a dinner like you said, Wan. Why can't they just sit, chat and have an usual dinner together?

BBQQ, probably because we think too much for others? Would the others think the same for us, what kind of table manner we have (if we ever had)? Most of the time (through my observation and experience) we tried our best to please others especially our guests.

Wan,

Those distinguished guest who enjoy the banquet won't remember or think of the servants who prepare the banquet.

I am curious if the distinguished guests will examine whether the dishes are poisonous. For example, Obama comes to Malaysia for a visit and have dinner together with the president of Malaysia. Will he ask someone to try the dishes first? I saw this many times in Chinese TV series. Before the emperor eat the dishes, someone will try the dishes first to ensure all dishes are safe for eating.
