It's true. To be honest, I did it when I was in college. It's a shame.

I took a long way to study in order to be a street smart. I envy the librarians that can classify knowledge which at least they need some basic knowledge in their cataloguing and classification works. Even with simple Dewey Decimal Classification they need to know 10 core subject divisions. Even that, now many young librarian are doing copycat from either National Union Catalogues or the Library of Congress. Yet they are professionals. So BBQQ you shouldn't be ashamed but look forward to change our way of disseminating information and knowledge.

Did you mean continuing Doctoral degree without gaining PG diploma? I am afraid that it is impossible in China. You can continue to study for doctoral degree unless you have your PG diploma.

In my system of tertiary education, we have the compulsory requirement, to have a bachelor's degree. If you graduated in First Class Honours, with experience of working you may opt, with good proposal to do a direct doctoral studies, while other graduates have to have a master's degree. Postgraduate diploma usually for some professional courses. I know one girl who is an excellent student where the senate of the graduate studies allows her to proceed for he doctoral level eventhough she doesn't have a master's degree.

Wan,

There are some universities that enroll students for Bachelor and Post-graduate education. If they pass all the exams and get the required credits when they finish their courses for Bachelor degree, they can continue their post-graduate education without joining the exams. Similarly, post-graduate and doctor education are available for those excellent students too.

Dear BBQQ, some local universities, have certain requirements in order for graduate students to obtain their, say, master's degree. One of the requirements would be a minimum score of grade point average not less than 3.2. If a student gets 3.0 GPA then he would be under probation (P) and the second semester he still maintains 3.0 GPA, then he will be given a D (dismiss).

For graduate studies, students may have two options, i) exams and academic paper, ii) full research (thesis or dissertation).

Yes, they have much higher requirements on Post-graduates and Doctors. For bachelors, they just need to earn enough credits and then write a thesis in order to graduate. Post-graduates are required to publish 2 or 3 theses on core acedamic magazines and then they can graduate successfully. I don't know the detailed requirements for Doctors.

master's and doctoral students are required to write academic articles or papers in certain international and local journals. These articles will help in their research proposal on literature review as well as part of academic strength to be recognised among the academic circle. Google does help in literature search especially articles in certain academic journals.
